The Hidden Knowledge in an LED Light

How Can an LED Light Save Energy?

LED light has become the winner in the updated lighting market, eliminating members such as incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and high-intensity gas discharge lamps. LED lights have their unique advantages, especially in energy-saving.

Since Edison improved the light bulb, incandescent lamps have been occupying the main market. However, their photoelectric conversion efficiency is only 2% to 4%. Nowadays, when energy-saving and environmental protection are popular, LED light has become the darling of the era. It displays significant advantages in light intensity, service time, and luminous efficiency, with the actual luminous efficiency value reaching 90%. LED light only needs to consume 1/10 of the electricity emitted by incandescent lamps under the same brightness condition. It only consumes a few kilowatt-hours of electricity in 1,000 hours, which is an enormous energy-saving gap. Besides, LED light has a long lifespan and can reach 100,000 hours.

Moreover, ordinary fluorescent lamps have two wire filaments at each end, and the tube is filled with a trace of argon and a thin layer of mercury vapor. The inner wall of the tube is coated with fluorescent powder, and visible light is emitted when the gas conducts a current and emits ultraviolet light between the wire filaments, illuminating the fluorescent powder. This type of lighting fixture requires a high voltage to stimulate before it is used, and only a small current is allowed to pass when it emits light. The instability of this voltage not only consumes energy but also increases the damage rate.

LED light has a low working voltage, which is lower than the safe voltage of the human body. It is more secure and reliable than ordinary household power and are suitable for public lighting. It has no wire filaments to light up and rely on semiconductor chips to emit light, not affected by vibrations, external voltage, or environmental temperature changes. Also, its light does not contain ultraviolet and infrared rays and does not produce radiation, which is healthier for the human body. In some remote areas, LED light also has significant advantages. It can be powered by direct current. Batteries and solar energy can supply them, making them ideal for wilderness use.

Wide Application of LED Lights

We can say that LED lights are ubiquitous in our lives, and almost all bright places have their presence. In specialty stores and large shopping malls, businesses prefer LED lights to create a high-quality light environment that other traditional lighting sources cannot match for displaying certain products. In special places like museums and art galleries where the lighting environment requirements are high, the exhibits require light sources that do not contain ultraviolet radiation or heat. LED lights meet these requirements well. Of course, their existence can also be found in our homes, such as chandeliers in living rooms and lighting lamps in rooms, most of which are composed of LED lights.

The future of LED lights is promising as we can achieve the connection between chips through computer programming, gradually realizing digitalization and intelligence, and also striving for further improvements in energy-saving performance. Let's look forward to their brilliant future together!
